Spa – The Peak 360°, Bürgenstock Resort

Thanks to the sensitive approach adopted by the redesign, the Spa Complex with its park, which has its origins in the 1970s, should to a large extent retain its present character.

‘THE PEAK 360°’ project includes a complete renovation and expansion of the Spa site. The Spa of the Bürgenstock Resort aims to become one of the leading spas in Europe. Uniquely situated, at its highest point the Bürgenstock Resort offers a fantastic all-round-view of 360°. There is a wet area inside the rock (In the Rock), and an area on top of the rock (On the Rocks in the Club) for relaxing, beauty treatments and partying.

The concept is based on comprehensive sustainability, both in the design and use of the spa. The existing structure is used to the maximum extent, and will only be extended where business operations demand it. The existing building will be completely renovated with focus on energy efficiency and expanded by the addition of a new building mimicking the oval shape of an erratic boulder.

The baths and saunas are laid out as an exciting sequence of spaces, enabling guests to enjoy and experience the most diverse impressions. The cleverly arranged panoramic windows and integration of interior and exterior spaces repeatedly open up to fantastic views of the lake and mountain scenery. In addition, the spa offers extraordinary highlights such as a snow room and a waterfall wall.

The existing building is connected to the boulder, affording it direct access to the new ICON hotel.

The oval form of the new building blends unobtrusively with the landscape. The height of the building is adapted to the location, and its roof gardens create a multitude of spaces to retreat. Atmospheric garden niches with an Alpine character afford distant views of the lake and the mountains.

The existing building on the SPA site will be carefully restored. Paths with natural stone paving lead to the outdoor lounge areas, massage temple, pavilion and new children’s playground.

The generously proportioned terrace by the existing pool, which is worth preserving, will be extended southwards, thereby visually shielding the delivery area below. This will create space for 100 lounge chairs for pool guests to relax. If guests would like to eat something after their swim, they can conveniently do so on the restaurant terrace.

With 5,000 m² of indoor space and 10,000 m² of parkland, the Bürgenstock Spa will become a benchmark for the luxury spa sector in Europe. The unique location and structural transformation are intimately connected, creating a harmonious holistic concept that will offer a unique spa experience.
