The new five-star luxury hotel ICON on the peak of mount Bürgenstock will be the heart and flagship of the Bürgenstock Resort.

The ICON building is located between SPA and the Palace and is oriented toward Lucerne. The main building contains two wings, arranged around the striking terrace. The elevation is balanced due to its horizontal design emphasis. The new buildings were set on the edge of the slope and shifted against each other. The buildings are oriented towards north and south but also provide a west-east exposure with views to Hammetschwand, the valley and the bernese alps. The glass penthouse tops the stone base of the west wing.
The piazza is the center piece and meeting point of the resort. It is lined with boutiques and cafes but also with the station of the Bürgenstockbahn. A covered courtyard encloses the piazza and connects it with the Palace as meeting place even during bad weather. The hotel itself and its interior is inspired by legendary movie scenes. Sources of inspiration were „Goldfinger“, „Lost in Translation“, „North by Northwest“ and „Ironman“.
The new hotel offers 111 luxurious rooms with spectacular views of Lake Lucerne, to Lucerne itself and of the Alps. The hotel is situated 440 meters above the lake on a rock of the Bürgenstock. This height is equivalent with modern hotel towers in Shanghai or Tokyo. The lobby offers a spectacular view over the lake just like a lobby on the 79th floor of a skyscraper.
Sixty-five deluxe rooms and thirty junior suites spread over three respectively five floors in the two wings (east and west) of the hotel. In the west wing there are four luxury suites, each with two keys named after the actresses Scarlett Johansson (USA), Preity Zinta (India), Gong Li (China) and Marion Cotillard (France), all of them enthusiastic guests of the Bürgenstock Resort.
The penthouse of the Presidential Bürgenstock Suite is located on the very top of the west wing. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi. The suite offers all imagineable luxury amenities like private sauna, massage room, plunge pool and private terrace. The suite can be devided into four keys.
The hotel terrace is the main feature oft he hotel and an important location. The terrace streches continously between the two wings of the hotel. A unique space with magnificent views onto Lake Lucerne and the Alps. With plenty of light and sun this terrace looks spectacular and is covered by a delicate roof to protect against wind and weather. The terrasse be used year-round. The winter garden is open depending on weather conditions. Beneath the terrace there are bar and lounge of the hotel, offering spectacular views of the lake and the Alps. It ist the idea venue for jazz, drinks and romance. A direct ground level VIP entrance leads directly from the shuttle train to the lobby and the check-in.
The rooms are characterized by large bay windows that can be used as a seating areas, just as Scarlett Johansson did in the movie “Lost in Translation”. An operable French window allows to feel the fresh air and the height. The standard rooms don’t offer balconies, which would have blocked the view. The junior and larger suites do offer recessed balconies however.
To the south, guests will appreciate private loggias to relax and to enjoy the warmth. These loggias are used as VIP lounges for open air movies on the piazza. The penthouse is stands out through its exclusiveness and architecture and is built out like the ranch in „Goldfinger“. A panoramic view of the lake and mountains and a large terrace are a given. The concept of the duplex penthouse also allows for individual rentals. The five major units can be subdivided into up to twelve separate rooms, which increases the supply in line with demand.
