The new development on the Wilhelm & Dousse site redefines the residential area. Seven slightly staggered buildings with different dimensions form a clearly recognisable site identity. A sequence of spaces within the settlement creates a living space. The surrounding landscape is integrated and connected by a generous internal network of paths. The geometric use of the buildings responds to the immediate context. In terms of its grain and volumetric character, the new building concept mediates the urban context between the small, shaped detached houses on the north and west sides and the denser new buildings on the east. The site is open and accessible and allows new connections through the neighbourhood. The distance between the buildings allows for an outstanding quality of the outdoor spaces and also protects the privacy of the units. The views and sunlight determine the orientation and design of the new buildings. The quality of the location on the edge of the neighbourhood and the view are best reflected in the urban structure and the chosen flat typology. A variety of views and optimal sunlight can be realised.
The six compact, detached apartment blocks and the commercial building offer working and living space for people with a flair for greenery. The majority of the flats are orientated on three sides. All flats benefit from the diverse views and high-quality outdoor areas. The flats with direct access to the outside have a garden area. Various zoning and filters create transitions from semi-private to private. Changes in flooring structure the space and flexible façade elements create intimacy according to personal needs. The floor plans of the various buildings allow for different variations. The cubic shape of the buildings allows for a flexible and compact design. Thanks to a uniform choice of materials and flat roof shapes, the buildings are perceived as a unit in terms of design and form an ensemble.
